• Sisä-Suomen elinvoimakeskus acquires basic maintenance work related to bird water renovations in Ahtialanjärvi. The work includes mowing the grass-stalked vegetation of Ahtialanjärvi's "seagull island", collecting and spreading mowing waste, and suppressing the growths of large duckweed with permanent covers, checking and maintenance of nesting boxes and nesting boxes and, if necessary, spreading wood chips on the nesting boxes. The surface area of ​​Lokkisaari varies depending on the water level, with the largest being about 3 hectares. The mowing of Lokkisaari starts in July at the beginning and it is done with hand shears for the safety of the birds and the environment. The island is mowed in sub-regions, and partly twice. The first mowing should be completed by the end of August, after which the second mowing will begin. Another mow should be completed by the end of October. In previous years, mowing has taken about 220-260 working hours from experienced mowers. The difficulty and duration of the work depends on the experience of the workers and the conditions of the island (e.g. water level). The island can be difficult to navigate due to the siltiness. After the first mowing is completed, the mowing masses are taken by barges and boats to the areas where it is necessary to raise the island. This has taken an average of about 100 working hours. If the gorse spreads into the control area, it is either eradicated or killed with permanent covers during the growing season. This has taken an average of 20 working hours in recent years.
