- The municipality of Sodankylä has received a positive funding decision for the project LOISTAVA - Sky Phenomena as sustainable tourism products. The funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) has been granted by the Federation of Lapland. The municipality of Sodankylä is responsible for the implementation of the project. The project the total cost estimate is €250,961, of which the municipality's financial share is 20%. The project's goal is to strengthen Sodankylä's position as a sustainable and year-round tourist destination by supporting and creating new business opportunities for tourism entrepreneurs in the area and for new operators. With the help of the training and market research carried out in the project, tourism entrepreneurs and other local entrepreneurs will get tools for productizing and creating new experiences in different seasons. Especially a sleepless night the development of tourism services offers new opportunities for increasing the volume of summer tourism. Sodankylä's dark sky offers excellent opportunities for observing the sky, especially for travelers who normally cannot see the starry sky at home due to light pollution. The LOISTAVA project aims to expand the productization work also to sky phenomena other than darkness, i.e. experiencing a natural night. One key development target is the productization of the nightless night as part of summer tourism, because midnight the sun offers the opportunity to productize tourism services that support the growth of year-round tourism and sustainable tourism in the Sodankylä area.
