• Description:
• The goal of the Academy of Finland's MetaFor project is to promote a sustainable bioeconomy by utilizing forest biomass innovatively in accordance with the principles of the circular economy. The project investigates the replacement of peat in growing media with forestry by-products in order to reduce the carbon footprint and increase carbon sequestration in the soil, leading to practical innovations that curb climate change and preserve natural diversity. hot water extract, extraction residue and other possible side streams depending on the needs of the different parts of the project and the time, varying from hundreds of grams to hundreds of kilograms. Boreal Bioproducts (Moninutra Oy) supplies the materials for the project, of which certain products are under patent, some materials are not commercially available. The purpose of the project is to study the entire production chain from raw material to the final product, side streams of the processes and residual materials. The research project has access also to other materials and compositional and process technical information. The supplier is committed to modify the materials if necessary, if the research shows that a different material is needed, for example a drier residue. Boreal Bioproducts is as a research collaboration involved in different ways in the MetaFor research consortium formed by the University of Turku, Savonia University of Applied Sciences and the University of Eastern Finland and in its different areas.
