• The city of Joensuu has named forest bioeconomy and photonics as its strategic priorities. Applications based on forest and light are somewhat visible in Joensuu's cityscape, for example in buildings and lighting solutions, but consideration of the special expertise of priority areas in procurement processes is not systematic. One of the goals of the Innokaupunki Joensuu 3 project is to get companies and research institutes operating in the fields of forest bioeconomy and photonics to meet with the people responsible for infrastructure procurement and urban planning in the city of Joensuu. The goal is to find new ones operating methods, so that the latest innovations in forest bioeconomy and photonics as well as new types of product and service experiments are taken into account as one of the tools of sustainable urban development. This assignment focuses especially on the new swimming hall being built in Mehtimaki, which offers several opportunities for new applications of forest and light. The measure will increase the awareness of city group officials and employees who decide on public procurement about innovative solutions in forest bioeconomy and photonics. The goal is also to increase forest bioeconomy and photonics companies' and research institutes' know-how for innovation experiments and new implementations with the city.
