• Description:
• The task of this commission is to produce a new measurement basis for the Itärada's planned track alignment. The measurement basis is produced using measurement methods according to the instructions to be followed. The measurement basis is an important part of the acquisition of initial data for the design of the Eastern Railway for. The content of the task is described in more detail in the tender documents. Itärata Oy's task is to design a rail connection enabling high-speed train traffic from Lentorada via Porvoo up to the construction phase in Kouvolaa. The main goals of the project are enables faster long-distance train service to eastern Finland than the current one: along the Savo and Karelia lines to Kuopio, Joensuu and Kainuuse, and connects the city of Porvoo to the rail transport network of the capital region. 2 million people live in the area affected by the Eastern Railway Finns in seven provinces. Itärata is planning together with several planning partners, municipalities and cities and other stakeholders. The planning aims to start the construction of the track in the early 2030s and the track would be completed by 2040. In July 2024, the Eastern Railway was approved for the expanded European-wide transport core network (TEN-T). With the decision, Itärata Oy can apply for significant EU funding for the design of the rail project. Itärata Oy's owners are the State of Finland (51%) represented by the Ministry of Transport and Communications and 24 cities.
