- The city of Kouvola is planning to implement a new multi-purpose arena in the area of the Kouvola Sports Park. The multi-purpose arena will be implemented primarily for the needs of exercise, the main users of which during the day will be the upper classes of the future Marjoniemi school, the Sports Academy and the Lyseo high school's sports line pupils. Sports and exercise clubs use the arena in the evenings and weekends. In addition to these, the multipurpose arena can be used to organize various events, such as concerts or fairs.
The main hall of the arena is approx. 2000 m2 with a parquet floor and consists of three transversely placed from the basketball court. The main hall can be divided into three blocks with intermediate curtains. The second hall is carpeted and has a size of approx. 1000 m2. The second hall can also be divided into two blocks with an intermediate curtain. The main hall has transfer stands which, when opened, enable the use of one longitudinal basketball court and greater spectator capacity. The smaller hall has a fixed stand. The free height of both halls must be at least 8.5 meters. The target audience is approx. 2,500 people.
The use of the arena focuses on the implementation of school sports according to the curriculum during the day, different ball sports, basketball, for indoor basketball and volleyball. In addition, a physical training space will be implemented in the arena. In the evening, the arena is used for versatile training of sports and sports clubs.
