• Description:
• The tendering phase of the project management contract for the interior renovation of Turku Cathedral has started. Almost 50 years have passed since the last renovation of the cathedral. The project includes inevitable building technical maintenance repairs and functional changes in an inclusive and diverse manner for the use of worship life and gathering. The goal is a welcoming and accessible sanctuary. Accessibility will be improved both in the churchyard and indoors. The functionality of the church hall and the main shell will be improved while keeping the iconic view of the main corridor almost unchanged. Versatile a new gathering space is being built in Ursula's chapel and on the second floor of the sacristy. The project includes regional and interior construction works, space changes and elevation, carried out as archaeological excavations or monitoring.
  The general plan compiles the content of the construction project into the project management contract (hereafter PJU) for the acquisition procedure, the statement of the Finnish Museum Agency, applying for a building permit and the church administrative decision process. It presents the Cathedral's usage plan and the construction and building engineering works of the changes. The planning continues with the implementation planning phase, which results in the completion of detailed plans construction plans.
  Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2026. The renovated church will be put into use in Advent 2028.
