Description:
We are asking for an offer for the interior and furniture design of the Rikhardinkatu library. The Rikhardinkatu library was completed in 1881 as Finland's first public library. The original architect of the building was Theodor Höijer. Building represents the Neo-Renaissance typical of its time. The building is not officially protected, but since it is a nationally significant building, the site is treated as protected. The building will be renovated and expanded in 2027-2029 The purpose of the Rikhardinkatu library after the basic improvement is to serve the residents of the area even better as a neighborhood library, but also to attract visitors more broadly from the entire city. The library is being developed even more strongly for children and families as a library. The basic improvement increases space, activity possibilities, safety and accessibility for users of different ages, and strengthens the everyday life and vitality of the city center by attracting city residents to spend time in the library.
