- The magnetic resonance imaging device of the Lapland Central Hospital's imaging unit has been in use for almost 20 years and was last updated 9 years ago in 2017. The usual technical life of the device is 8-10 years. The device has reached the end of its useful life and requires renewal or comprehensive updating. When considering renewing the device, the possibility of updating the current device was investigated. The advantages of upgrading are, in addition to a cheaper price, a shorter production interruption and technical issues related to device installation the lack of modifications. For example, the new device would have to be transported to the imaging unit of Lapland Central Hospital through other facilities, which would require the opening of access ports to the access route. In connection with the update, there is no need to download the current device The life cycle update according to the update offer requested from the supplier GE Healthcare Oy extends the device's service life by about 10 years. The production interruption required for the update is about three weeks. In the update, the opening of the device is widened from 60 cm to 70 cm, which improves the possibilities of imaging patients of different sizes and increases patient comfort. In addition, the new artificial intelligence reconstructions enable at best more than 50% faster shooting sequences.
