- The linear accelerator Säde 3 has been acquired for the radiation therapy unit of the Tampere University Central Hospital in 2018, and will be in the middle of its life cycle in 2026. Since then, three more linear accelerators have been acquired for the radiotherapy unit (Ray 4 2022, Ray 1 2023, Radius 2 2025). Equipment and technologies have developed during this time, enabling even more precise and higher-dose radiation treatment of patients, as well as patient positioning and movement monitoring and posture correction. The 6D table allows you to modify the treatment position in addition to translations, also by means of rotations around three axes. This feature was not yet available for Säde 3 in its current form and is found in all new devices. The 6D layout feature has a clear benefit for patient care and that the absence of a machine to be updated makes the transfer of patients between machines e.g. very difficult in the case of maintenance or machine operator. In order to be able to administer modern high-dose targeted radiotherapy to all patients for whom the doctor prescribes it deems it useful, we will get a 6D table that improves alignment to the current Säde 3. The price of the upgrade is €160,000 (VAT 0%). The 6D table is essentially related to the operation of the radiotherapy accelerator and can be supplied by none other than the accelerator manufacturer Varian Medical Systems.
